Self-drive chimpanzee tracking safari in Kibale Forest National Park
Take a road trip to Kibaleforest national park in 2 days. Yes it can be designed for self-drive tourists interested in chimpanzee tracking in a very short period of time.
You will also do a nature walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary which is 5 km away from kibale forest visitor center kanyanchu. Over 200 bird species and 8 species of monkeys are recorded in the wetland managed by a community based organization that strives to conserve local wildlife.
Kibaleforest national park is home to highest concentration of primate species in Africa. The park is home to 13 primate species including chimpanzee. Several groups of chimpanzees are habituated for tourism, allowing up close encounters with the habituated chimpanzees.
A remarkable diversity of other primates include red colobus monkey, black and white colobus monkey, grey checked mangabay, blue monkey, red tailed monkey.
Day 1 Kampala to Kibale Forest National Park
Kibale forest national park is located in western Uganda approximately 358 km from Kampala city or Entebbe town. It takes about 5-6 hours to drive there. You will set off from Kampala or Entebbe depending on where you collect your car rental early morning and transfer to kibale forest national park reaching in the afternoon. Check in the lodge for lunch. If you don’t prefer to stay at the lodge doing nothing, there’s Bigodi wetland sanctuary to go for a nature walk.
The first day of the tour ends with dinner and overnight stay at lodge of choice.
Day 2: chimpanzee tracking and transfer back to Kampala
In the morning after breakfast, you will head to park visitor center Kanyanchu and get a briefing from expert guides. From there you trek on foot into the forest where you will have an encounter with man’s closest relative the chimpanzees.Return to the lodge and transfer back to Kampala which marks the end of the tour.
